Each dog will have its own preference. Typically, soft beds are best for puppies, who need more warmth and comfort, and senior dogs, who may suffer from joint pain. Hard beds are usually preferred by dogs that want to regulate their body temperature in warmer climates. If your dog is sleeping on the floor next to its bed, then the bed you have provided is too soft.

Zach's Pet Shop recommends placing your dog's bed in a quiet area of your house where your dog can retreat and rest without interruption. Make sure it is out of direct sunlight and away from drafts. Many owners put their dog's bed in a corner of their own bedroom, to help bond with their dog.

Round beds are usually preferred by smaller breeds or dogs that like to sleep curled up in a ball. Square beds are typically favoured by larger dogs or those that like to stretch out while sleeping. When choosing a dog bed shape, also consider where it will fit in your home. Square beds fit well in corners!
