Why does my puppy want to chew everything?
Teething is the main reason. Puppies explore the world with their mouths, and chewing helps relieve gum discomfort while their adult teeth come through. We highly recommend the Sweater Rope Ring and our Chew Buddies Bundle. If they don’t have the right toys, they’ll find their own alternatives, and that's usually shoes, furniture, or anything within reach.
What type of toys are best for teething puppies?
Look for softer rubber or flexible textures that give a bit when chewed. Our Multipack Chew toys have a mix of these two types in one pack. The KONG Teething Stick can also be used as a fetch toy. Toys like our Ice Bone can be chilled to help soothe sore gums. Avoid anything too hard, as it can damage developing teeth.
How many toys should my puppy have?
You don’t need a huge pile, just a small rotation works best. A few chew toys, one or two interactive toys, and maybe something soft to carry around is usually enough. Most of our customers include the Heartbeat Sheep, Naughty Ball and Cuddle Body rope toys in their rotation. Rotating them every few days keeps them feeling “new.”
How do I stop my puppy from chewing the wrong things?
Redirect, don’t just remove. If your puppy grabs something they shouldn’t have, swap it for a chew toy and reward them for choosing the right item. Over time, they learn what’s acceptable to chew.
How do I know when to upgrade their toys?
If your puppy starts destroying toys quickly or seems bored, it’s probably time to move up to something more durable or slightly more challenging. As their teeth and jaws get stronger, their toys should keep up. If your KONG Puppy toy is too soft or is falling apart, you can upgrade it to the more durable KONG Extreme.
